The North Star Ballet presents its 22nd annual Spring Gala at the Salisbury Theater on the campus of the University of Alaska Fairbanks on March 26th and 27th, 2011. The program features the delightful SnowWhite and the Seven Dwarves along with works to the music of John Denver, Louis Moreau Gottschalk and Fairbanks composer, John Luther Adams.
Snow White and the Seven Dwarves is an enchanting retelling of the classic Grimm’s fairy tale featuring a host of delightful characters and wonderful scenic effects. The Evil Stepmother assisted by a covey of bats, seeks to discover “who’s the fairest in the land?” in an imposing mirror. While the poison apple is brewed in a fuming cauldron, Snow White escapes to the safety of a quaint dwarf house deep within the dark forest. Prince Charming appears in a vision conjured by the Queen of the Night and a gathering of Shadows. Can her friends the churlish Dwarves save the lovely Snow White from the wicked designs of her Stepmother?
The program also features the revival ofDream in White on White to the music of Fairbanks composer, John Luther Adams. The ballet explores the intense feelings stimulated by the Arctic landscape. The North Star Ballet Junior Company and Apprentice Company take the stage in a fun filled romp to the music of John Denver. The program closes with a tour de force of classical dancing in Grand Tarantella.
